Let's start with the most commonly asked question:
Q: How do you pronounce "Gackt"?
A: Well, I'm glad you asked. There are two ways to pronounce it. The English way, and the Japanese way.
First: The Japanese pronunciation. Students of Japanese will know that consonants like k have to have a vowel behind them, like a u. So, TECHNICALLY, slow motion pronunciation would be gah-ku-toe. BUT. No one speaks that slowly, and as is the case in many "ku" words, the u is lost. So the correct pronunciation is "Gah-k-toe" with the K almost being swallowed, not a hard k sound, rather more like a click in the back of your throat. Anyway, as long as you have the vowel sounds right you're good :)
Next: The English pronunciation. Apparently Gackt himself has stated in numerous interviews that he prefers to be addressed using the English pronunciation, so if you can't swallow your japanese style "K", no worries! The correct pronunciation/vowel sound combo makes "Gackt" rhyme with "hacked", "smacked", "tracked", etc. You get the picture. Any pronunciations rhyming with "gawked", "hawked", "stalked", "checked" or "pecked"(Yes, I have heard this one) are wrong, wrong, wrong. Got it? Great! Now let's move on!

Q: How can "You" possibly be pronounced "yuu" I'm taking Japanese, and that says "Yo ew", or I'll eat my hat!
A: Well, I'm glad you brought this one up too, and I hope you like hat, because it IS pronounced the same as the English word You. The thing is, You's name is not YOU, it's Ju. Don't believe me? Go check his webpage. At some point in the past, he (or, rumors say, Gackt) thought it was cute/clever/funny/cool to change the spelling to English, causing problems to English speaking Japanese students ever since. Damn you and your tricksy name! *shakes fist*
I think that about does it for the pronunciation questions, except for the ever popular "How do you pronounce Mana?" to which my reply is "Go ask at a Mana fansite" ;)

A: As much as I appreciate the random love letters and marriage proposals I have received, no, I am in fact NOT Gackt. I lack the correct plumbing for that job. Sorry.
